Critical, scientific, experimental, and artistic perspectives, course A only
Dear students, with DEMYSTIFY AND TRY AI, we will jointly uncover, discuss, problematize, and explore diverse perspectives on human and artificial intelligence.
We will start with an immersion into the anatomy and functions of the human brain and its NNN (Natural Neural Networks) with model, videos, illustrations and interactive perception tests.
This is followed by an introduction to the anatomy and functions of „Artificial Intelligence“ with its ANN (Artifical Neural Networks), clarify the currently circulating technical terms, dive into the messy edges and dark peripheries of artificial intelligence and examine its malfunctions, distortions, stereotypes, phantom emotions, hallucinations, deepfakes and the fantasies of an AGI (Artifical General Intelligence).
We ask: How artificial and how intelligent is AI?, discuss the fundamental differences between NI and AI and the impact of AI on societal, scientific and artistic fields. For this purpose, investigative links to the mentioned problems are provided.
To kick off the experimental phase with AI applications and software, everyone will present their ideas, perceptions and experiences.
GTP 4, Midjourney, Polycam and an ever-expanding list of free apps will be at your disposal and our tutor Timo Harder (PD) will offer a 3d scanning activity with a stand scanner.
In addition, Mahmoud Ismail (Bh) will give an introductory course in the software Blender, with which you can create 3d computer simulations. You can import your before scanned objects, modify them, or generate new objects – which can then be created as images, animations or 3d prints. Mahmoud will also introduce AI extensions and stable diffusion.
All aspects discussed in the course can be starting points for your ideas and experiments and can take all conceivable forms of artistic activity: text, speech, imagery, animations, simulations, 3d objects, installations, performances, music and all fusions of these and beyond.

Liebe Studierende, mit DEMYSTIFY AND TRY AI werden wir gemeinsam diverse Perspektiven auf die menschliche und künstliche Intelligenz auftun, diskutieren, problematisieren und erproben.
Wir starten mit einer Vertiefung in die Anatomie und Funktionen des menschlichen Gehirns und seinen NNN (Natural Neural Networks) mit Modell, Videos, Abbildungen und interaktiven Wahrnehmungstests.
Es folgt eine Einführung in die Anatomie und Funktionen der Künstlichen Intelligenz mit den ANN (Artifical Neural Networks), klären die zurzeit kursierenden Fachbegriffe, tauchen wir ab in die unsauberen Ränder und dunklen Peripherien der künstlichen Intelligenz und untersuchen ihre Fehlleistungen, Verzerrungen, Stereotypen, Phantom-Emotionen, Halluzinationen, deepfakes und die Phantasien einer AGI (Artifical General Intelligence).
Wir fragen: wie künstlich und wie intelligent ist KI?, diskutieren die fundamentalen Unterschiede zwischen NI (Natural Intelligence) und KI und die Auswirkungen von KI auf gesellschaftliche, wissenschaftliche und künstlerische Felder. Hierfür stehen investigative Links zu den erwähnten Problematiken bereit.
Zum Start in die experimentelle Phase mit Applikationen und Software der KI stellen alle ihre Ideen, Vorstellungen und Erfahrungen vor.

Alle im Kurs thematisierten Aspekte können Ausgangspunkte für eure Ideen und Experimente sein und alle denkbaren Formen des künstlerischen Wirkens annehmen: Text, Sprache, Musik, Bildhaftes, Animationen, Simulationen, 3d Objekte, Installationen, Performances und alle Fusionen davon und darüber hinaus.
